In order to play airsoft you need three things, an airsoft gun, safety glasses, and BBs. Airsoft BBs come in a variety of shapes and colors, the most commonly used are the .20g white BBs. Heavier BBs will make your airsoft gun more accurate, while lighter ones will have a higher initial muzzle velocity. Different colored BBs can make the BBs hard or easier to see. The hardest to trace are the black and dark brown BBs, while the easiest are the white. Glow in the dark tracer BBs even exist! It is recommended to stay away from .12g BBs if you are using a high quality rifle, but they are fine for spring pistols. Whatever your ammo needs Zephyr Sports has the BB for you! More info below:
Airsoft BBs are the life blood of airsoft. Without BBs the airsoft guns would not be able to fire and would merely be display replicas or props. A large variety of BB weights, sizes and colors exist, and there are many things to watch out for. When higher quality BBs are paired with a tightbore , AEGs can achieve a high level of accuracy.
A BBs weight will affect how far the BB travels and how accurate it will be. Although .20g are the most common BB due to the price, heavier BBs will be less likely to be affected by wind currents and air friction. This means that heavier BBs travel farther than lighter ones. We recommend for spring pistols only since they are typically very low quality. and .25g BBs are the standard AEG range of BBs, and .30 and higher as .
Most airsoft BBs are white, though a variety of colors exist. White BBs are the most common because players are able to track the BBs as they are fired. Other colors exist to blend in with the environment. The dark the BB or the closer the color is to your environment the harder it is for players to track and your position to be spotted. As a general rule of thumb, brightly colored BBs are low quality and should not be used in AEGs.
High Quality BBs:
High quality BBs are free of imperfections such as nubs or indents. They are free of any mold rings, and are perfectly spherical. They do not have hard spots or air pockets that can throw off the spin of the BB, and are single or double polished with a smooth reflective surface.
BBs are made in a variety of different materials. Polystyrene is the most common material and is the cheapest. It is a plastic that is very affordable and can take up to 1000 years to degrade. , are BBs made of different kinds of materials such as PLA that instead are more Eco friendly and can take between 4 months and a year when exposed to the elements. Many airsoft fields and major events require Bio BBs because of their Eco friendly nature. Some metal BBs exist but they are typically not meant for airsoft and can cuase harm to your airsoft gun. There are also marking and paint BBs that are not meant for AEGs but can be used in spring guns.
There are two sizes of BBs available to airsoft players. The 6mm standard BB, and the much rarer 8mm BB. The 8mm is only used in a few airsoft guns, all of which are spring or gas powered. The 6mm BB is the standard size for airsoft guns and is found everywhere.
